I live in Upper Silesia the most industrial region in Poland

3rd October 2016

'I live in the region which there are a lot of parks but the air is very polluted too.

The photos I took while walking my dog - fumes are visible from the factory.

The Upper Silesian Industrial Region lies mainly in the Silesian Voivodeship centered on Katowice.
It is situated in the northern part of Upper Silesian Coal Basin a home of altogether 5 million people
The Upper Silesian Industrial Region is located in the province of Upper Silesia and Zagłębie Dąbrowskie in southern Poland in a basin between the Vistula and Oder rivers.
Upper Silesian Industrial Region is an area with enormous concentration of industry. Dominates here:
  • Mining industry (more than a dozen active coal mines,
  • Iron and steel industry (more than a dozen active iron and nonferrous metals)
  • Transport industry (example General Motors Manufacturing Poland and Fiat Auto PolandKonstalBumar Łabędy)
  • The energy industry (more than a dozen power plants and power plants)
  • Mechanical engineering
  • Chemical industry

It is easy to find job here but environment is not friendly to residents. As everywhere in the world they are pluses and minuses living here.

    1. Very interesting photos and history of your area. I grew up living with a factory down the street and remember such things as whistles blowing in the morning and at the end of day to signify the beginning and end of work.

    2. Yes I can understand the reasons why people live here but also why you prefer the countryside.
