The International World Water Day

20th March 2015

On Sunday 22th March is The International World Water Day.So I was with my students to celebrate it in Silesia City Centre. Silesia City Centre is the biggest  a shopping mall in Katowice, It was opened in 2005 and it is one of the biggest malls in Europe.

Its total area covers a few thousand square metres, of which 650 000 sq metres is a trade zone, 100 000 sq metres is a housing estate and 600 000 sq metres is an office site. It is situated in Katowice along 107 Chorzowska Road (the land previously belonged to the coal mine KWK Gottwald). The edifice was opened 18 November 2005. An investor is Hungarian company - TriGranit Development Corporation
In total, in Silesia City Center there are almost 850 shops, 40 cinema chambers (Cinema City), the centre of entertainment Fun City (with amusement arcade, club, billiards and bowling alley), banks and restaurants. On a rooftop there is a garden. There are partly underground car parks for 3000 cars as well (a red and a blue one), two guarded car parks and a free one for bicycles. Inside, in Tropical Square, there is a fountain, whose water is flipped approximately 13 metres up. The centre is divided into 43 avenues, named after main cities in Śląsk and Zagłębie Region, and 145 squares, acting as places facilitating meetings and leisure. Shops are situated round these squares and avenues, whose total length amounts over 10 kilometre.

Water the most important substance on the Earth.
We must save it to survive. At my place water is very expensive so some people save it but most waste it.
What about you..?

    1. My grandparents never wasted water. My parents generation did waste water and then after a severed drought, we once again became water savers.

    2. Andrew, we must save water to survive. In Upper Silesia we don't have much water and the running water is very very expesive. Here in conurbation all products are expensive but you can easily find a job and earn money if you are flexible comp[aring to others parts of Poland.

    1. Each year, World Water Day highlights a specific aspect of freshwater. Under the theme ‘Water and Sustainable Development’, the year 2015 provides an important opportunity to consolidate and build upon the previous World Water Days to highlight water's role in the sustainable development agenda.

UN-Water supports the World Water Day campaign and sets the theme each year. At the World Water Week 2014, UN-Water presents the plan for the World Water Day 2015 campaign, which is coordinated by UNDP with the support of WWAP, UNESCO, HABITAT, UNEP, The World Bank and UN-DESA.

Participants will get an opportunity to learn more about the theme of World Water Day, get the latest update on how the international community perceives water's role in the post-2015 framework and will be invited to get involved in the campaign. In addition, participants will also discover the logo of the World Water Day 2015.

  5. We try to conserve water as much as possible. My daughter has a huge catchment system at her home that supplies all the water to her house through a filtration system, and it comes from the rain only.

  7. Funny thing is water is not as expensive as the sewage bill. When you combine the two, it's quite expensive. We really need to conserve our water.
