Unique church in Racalmuto -Sicily

7th August 2106

There is an original church in Racalmuto Sicily.  The church has not a roof - so it means it was not finished in the past. Unfortunately I don't know anymore about this unique building. I am going to call my friend and write later.

The church dates back from 17th century

Madonna of Montes from Racalmuto- all pictures were made by residents of Racalmuto. It is possible to see them in local museum. About Madonna I wrote in my previous posts.

  1. Do you think it may have once had a roof that was destroyed?

  6. Looking forward to more details.
As Sicily can be so hot, maybe the roof was left
off for cooling reasons. I am sure all sacred like
items in the church would have been covered from the
wrath of the elements, so a roofless church I think is
    feasible.
Did you find the information on the Chinese Cemetery in Manila.
    the Philippines???
The Lawn War cemetery is also worth a look. You can google that.
    It is most impressive.
    Cheers

  7. They removed the roofs from the churches in the UK when they become unsafe or the church is not used any more. Seems so odd to build a church and not finish it.

  8. Perhaps the congregation ran out of money before they got to topping it off with a roof! Lovely embroidery.
