As you know from previous my posts my city Bytom which is located in the South of Poland is very old city 760 years old. So here you come across a lot of famous landmarks. A lot of old houses are renovated and a lot of them will be renovated in near future.
Market Square - most people call it "Red square"..
The red trees are wonderful..
The house dates back from 1903.
The two buildings in the last photo look lonely and the flats behind them are not their friends.
ReplyDeleteDefinitely tou are right the two buildings are very old but in the back are much more modern..
DeleteSo many beautiful buildings, Gosia!
ReplyDeletein the centre almost all buildings are renovated
DeleteThis Bytom "Red Square" is darn near deserted - at what time were these photos taken?
ReplyDeleteBytom being such a large city - this therefore would not be the central city square???
Thanks for the answer of the "sleeping lion" of Bytom.
So it was the Franco-Prussian war period ( 1870/1871 - Napoleon 111 v's Otto von Bismarck as the Prussian/German power behind and in front of the German Emperor or Kaiser) when this lion was presented to the city of Bytom which was then German
owned.
Thanks Gosia - previous post and this - you are regenerating my love of history
and having me kept on the "boil" ( as we say).
Cheers
Colin
