Gosia Is the "Sleeping Lion" a symbol just of Bytom or is the lion a symbol for the whole of Poland? It is hard to really associate Lions with European cities, but they do appear in many of them. Rome seems to have lion statues everywhere and I have seen lions in German cities also. Your blog is most informative on Polish history, culture and customs - excellently portrayed by you. Well done. Cheers Colin (Brisbane. Australia) PS: Hope you were able to access Polish history associated with Australia on the link?
Colin the lion was made in Berlin in 1873 . And it commemorates brave citizens of Bytom who sacrifice their life for Germany because at that time it was Germany ... hard times
nice!
